When my Muse is gone.When my Muse is gone, I cannot think. I cannot feel the rhythm of words upon a page.
When my Muse is gone, all meaning seems to slip beneath the covers. It is hiding, quivering, as though frightened of discovery.
When my Muse is gone, my mind wanders vacantly, like a vagabond, or a leaf upon the wind. It is no longer in control of it's own fate, but given up completely to chance.
But when my Muse returns, it is as though color fills the land: a blind man, seeing, for the first time; a polaroid blee When my Muse is gone.

Atlas ShruggedAtlas shrugged And dropped her head Glared out the window Wished to be dead
And I just watched I sat and stared The silence hung Thick and bare
Out the window Beyond the door I saw the staircase The building wore
The fire escape A coat of mink Waiting unused Vacant, oblique
I thought of a time I had known before One of faith Trust, so much more
Time however Dripped down the wall A defanged creature In a cage of straw
Days had flown by like dreams of smok Atlas Shrugged

Noir More WhiskyScotch. Bourbon. It didn't matter to me. The silent siren call of the aqua vitae echoed through the hull of my mind and brought me crashing down upon the rocks of sobriety. I was sinking fast. It was time to go to the liquor store. And despite my resolution, just one problem loomed like a great hideous beast on my amber horizon. It was a dilemma cloaked in silver, dripping like Mercury down into my sanity, fingers scraping my skull like nails against a blackboard. It hung there, frozen, perpetually noon. Bird on the WireLately when I talk to my parents on the phone my mom thinks the hummingbird in my voice is pecking at her, so she hangs up the line.
I listen until I hear the dial tone on my side and that’s when the hummingbird flies away, back to the treebranch left of my shoulder.
Then, my throat is a garbled empty nest and that’s when the whole laughing-crying business starts in.   My one self sobbing shudders of tears. My other self chickadee-fucking-cackling at how stupid, how incredibly infantile.
After a while, my body gets tired of all of Bird on the Wire
